The moment you purchase your brand new motorcycle, you need to do two things. You need to get insurance for it, and you must put together a motorcycle emergency kit so you can always be ready in case you have a problem. You would be surprised at how many people don’t have a kit with them in their backpack or a storage compartment on the motorcycle. That’s like going out on a rainy day and not wearing your motorcycle rain suit. You never know when your motorcycle could break down. It may happen even though you take meticulously good care of it. So here’s how to make an emergency or all-purpose kit.
Here are some of the most important tools that you need. If you feel like you need a wider variety of tools, go ahead and go include them in your kit. This list is just some of the basic tools that you need.
- Wire cutters
- Zip ties
- A clutch cable
- A multitool – If you don’t have a multitool in all of your kits, no matter what the kit is for, you’re wasting a great resource.
- A rag – prevent oil from leaking on your hands by wrapping them up in a rag
- A collapsible cup – these small items can catch any leaking oil, so it doesn’t spill onto the ground
- Duct tape – unless your motorcycle is on fire, there’s nothing that duct tape can’t fix
- A road flare – This is to warn other drivers to be wearing watch out if you stop in the middle or on the side of the freeway.
- Some cash – you never know when you may need to call someone or use the restroom, and the cashier does not let you until you buy something.
There are only a few items in this kit, but they will come in handy when you need them, and you never know when you will need them, so do not remove them. If you need some of these items in your home, then just buy two and keep one in your house and one in your emergency kit.
But having tools is not enough. Those of us who own motorcycles must also wear protective clothing. Protective clothing is made to lessen the impact of a collision on our soft human skin and flesh. In many movies and TV shows, the character who rides a motorcycle often wears a leather jacket. But this is not just any leather jacket; it is usually a motorcycle protective jacket or a men’s leather motorcycle jacket. And we must keep our legs and feet protected as well.
